natural HISTORY OF A THERAPEUTIc Encounter
|
Most individuals and couples, after a few fitful false starts, eventually engage in therapy
only after the resistance and discomfort with going to therapy is outweighed by the pain and
frustration of the problems they are experiencing.
Such encounters are usually driven by anxiety producing stressors such as monetary
problems, illness, major losses, conflicts, sexual dissatisfaction, infidelity, changing careers or
a major move, etc. We, of course, help you to address and work through such acute issues as
quickly as possible and also look into family of origin issues, which often prove to be influential
in the evolution of such problems. Let's take a look at what your first session with us would
be like.
THE FIRST SESSION
Being sensitive to the potential anxiety produced by even coming to a therapeutic session
for the first time, we create a safe harbor, where you will begin to feel comfortable to express
your thoughts and feelings. We are there with you to help you take care of any fall out which
may arise from you openly sharing your true feelings and opinions. Although difficult, being
true to yourself and/or your partner is an important first step in overcoming the problems
you're having. In this process, we will help you to communicate
in ways that are less confrontational and more productive.
Our first session with you will last for approximately an hour and 15 minutes, even though
usual sessions are fifty minutes long. We do this at no extra cost to you, to afford us more
time to take care of intake information and general evaluations, allowing time for a full session
to address your issues and investigate your goals.
Our full fee of $140 is required for the first session, but lower fees are considered after the
first session for those who qualify. We do not accept insurance, but will generate a receipt
which you may file if you have coverage. Most of our clients are reimbursed in this fashion
for our services.
